Two Hall of Famers, One Great Person

Share

I was on the field for batting practice at Tony Gwynn’s last game at Dodger Stadium and saw firsthand why Tony is so loved and why few people care about Rickey Henderson’s race for the records.

Tony wore a smile, laughed easily and was very approachable. All the photographers had great stories about Tony.

I witnessed one photographer approach the legendary Maury Willis, in uniform on the Dodger sideline. He asked Maury if he could take a picture of him with Rickey. Maury said sure, but when the photographer asked Rickey, he declined, saying he had to go shag fly balls.

Another case of Rickey just being Rickey.
