High School Evacuated After Wood Shop Fire
About 2,200 students and staff were evacuated from Huntington Beach High School Monday after a fire broke out in a woodworking class, officials said.
Firefighters were called to the school at 1905 Main St. shortly before 11 a.m. when sawdust caught fire in the classroom’s dust-collection system, Huntington Beach Fire spokeswoman Birgit Davis said. Smoke spread through the building’s ventilation system, but damage was confined to the wood shop, Davis said.
The fire was extinguished in just a few minutes, and students and teachers returned to classrooms by 11:20 a.m., Davis said. The wood shop remained closed.
No injuries were reported. The blaze is under investigation.
