Pianist Herbie Hancock, saxophonist Michael Brecker and trumpeter Roy Hargrove will celebrate the music of two jazz legends--Miles Davis and John Coltrane--with their program “Directions in Music.” The concert, which features compositions by Davis and Coltrane, commemorates the 75th anniversary of their births.

The music of the influential Eddie Palmieri falls into many Afro-Caribbean subgenres, but in a two-night career retrospective at the Conga Room, the New Yorker will split the difference. If it’s bodies you want, Joe Goode’s got ‘em. Bodies with that special something, like “The Transparent Body,” the newest entry in a Joe Goode Performance Group series about the corpus delectable. Presented cabaret style, it looks at all the bodies hidden inside what we think of as our physical reality. And then there’s “What the Body Knows,” a series of vignettes about all the decisions we never make with our minds alone. For those unfamiliar with Goode’s, um, body of work, he’s an award-winning, Bay Area-based choreographer and performer who started his six-member company 15 years ago and likes to mix his dancing with spoken commentary, songs and full-bodied humor.* Joe Goode Performance Group, Irvine Barclay Theatre, 4242 Campus Drive, Irvine.
