Radio Festival Features ‘Sound’ Team

Share

TeamRadio’s capacity to document everyday life was given new weight when National Public Radio’s newsmagazine “All Things Considered” began airing “Lost and Found Sound” in 1999. The series’ audio documentaries could be anything from recovered home recordings to glimpses of street life; regardless, they were keys unlocking a vast array of subjects.

The team responsible for “Lost and Found Sound”--”Kitchen Sisters” Davia Nelson and Nikki Silva, as well as executive producer Jay Allison--will play excerpts of stories from the series Friday at the Museum of Television & Radio in Beverly Hills. Among the excerpts: “WHER: 1000 Beautiful Watts,” the story of the first all-girl radio station in the world.

Series contributors Taylor Negron (the comedian whose collection of phone messages was featured) and Norman Corwin (whose 1946 journey around the world was captured on wire recorder) will also be on hand.

The event is part of the museum’s annual radio festival, which begins Thursday and runs through Oct. 27. Many local stations will be broadcasting from the museum’s studio during that period, and there will be two other seminars: one featuring Lakers announcer Chick Hearn on Sunday, the other examining “The Changing Face of Radio” on Oct. 24.

General admission tickets are $10. Information: (310) 786-1091.
