Micheline Ostermeyer, 78; Concert Pianist, Gold-Medal Olympian

Micheline Ostermeyer, 78, who won gold medals in the shotput and discus throw in the 1948 Olympics and went on to become a distinguished classical pianist, died Wednesday, according to officials at the Bois-Guillaume Red Cross Hospital near Rouen, France.

In addition to the two golds, Ostermeyer won a bronze medal in the high jump in the 1948 Games, which were staged in London and were the first to be held after World War II.

She later became a concert pianist and was particularly noted for her performances of works by Sergei Rachmaninoff.
