Man, 19, Dies After Accidental Shooting

A 19-year-old Ventura man died Saturday after accidentally shooting himself in the head with a .22-caliber rifle, police said.

Andy Aguilar was showing the weapon to his brother, a cousin, and another friend at his house in the 6000 block of Oriole Street, authorities said. He thought it was unloaded when he held it to his head and pulled the trigger, Sgt. Mark Stadler of the Ventura Police Department said. The incident occurred at 2:50 a.m. Aguilar was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about noon. Aguilar is survived by his parents and several relatives.
