Environmental Laws a Victory for Families Too
Re “Davis Signs Pro-Environment Measures,” Oct. 14:
I was hesitant to read about the consequences to our local communities. The bills signed by Gov. Davis--coastal land preservation, a state parks bond measure, removing offshore oil platforms and promoting solar energy systems--are a big victory for most of us raising families in Orange County and not just for environmentalists. Instead of supporting huge profits for the building and oil industries, we should all be supporting our local communities’ open-space campaigns to protect the remaining land in Orange County instead of following the current push by the building industry to provide even more housing. Can’t we just say “If we don’t build it, they won’t come?”
