Early-Kindergarten Registration Begins
Parents may pick up registration materials beginning today for the Huntington Beach City School District’s extended kindergarten.
The program is an introduction to kindergarten for children too young to attend the start of regular kindergarten classes in September, District Superintendent Gary Rutherford said.
Under state law, a child who celebrates his or her fifth birthday on or before Dec. 2 of the school year may enroll in kindergarten that calendar year. Those whose birthdays fall after that date must wait until the next fall.
Huntington Beach’s 13-year-old program allows those students to register earlier to gain experience before beginning a regular full-year of kindergarten.
Registration forms are available at neighborhood elementary schools. Applications will be accepted until Nov. 14, and classes will begin Jan. 28. Space is limited to 60 students.
