Fremont 45, South Gate 21--Now considered a contender in the City Section championship race after its stunning victory at San Pedro, the Pathfinders didn’t suffer a letdown against South Gate as two-way star Mark Bradford caught three touchdown passes and set up another with a long interception return.

Bradford, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior, caught seven passes for 114 yards. He hauled in scoring receptions of 20, 27 and 15 yards from senior quarterback Abe Escobar, who threw for 233 yards and five touchdowns.

Eric Jones added 143 yards as the Pathfinders (3-0) clicked all night on offense, one week after scoring only six points.

Bradford caught two touchdown passes in the second quarter as Fremont built a 17-0 lead. Escobar later hit Shelvion Williams with a 19-yard touchdown pass as the Pathfinders led, 24-, at halftime.

The victory was costly though as defensive end-tight end Thomas Herring was carried off the field on a stretcher and was taken to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Bellflower. He lay motionless on the field, but medical personnel said he had feeling in his arms and legs and was taken for precautionary measures.

South Gate (2-1) got a big game from Fabian Ruvalcaba, who had 200 yards rushing, including a 14-yard touchdown, on 24 carries.
