Fund-Raiser Planned for Local Salad-Bar Project

The Community Alliance With Family Farmers will hold an Oct. 11 fund-raiser to benefit efforts to install salad bars--stocked with locally grown produce--in Ventura schools.

The group has been testing the feasibility of the salad-bar venture since last year at Juanamaria Elementary School in Ventura. Offering a salad alternative two days a week, nearly 4,000 salad-bar meals were served from March to June.

The alliance is picking up the costs for cafeteria workers who prepare the salads, and for project evaluation.
