Truck Explodes at Temple in Tunisia
A natural gas tanker truck crashed into the outer wall of a synagogue on a Tunisian resort island Thursday, causing an explosion that killed five people and injured dozens.
Although Europe has seen a spate of anti-Semitic attacks recently, the government called the explosion on the island of Djerba an accident, and the synagogue’s president agreed.
Among the dead were two German tourists, according to a hospital list obtained from Gov. Mohammed ben Salem. The other fatalities were two synagogue workers and the driver of the truck, all identified as Tunisian.
