Gonzalez, Torres Win Bouts

Light-heavyweight contender Julio Gonzalez stopped Joseph Kiwanuka after seven rounds on a technical knockout Saturday night in front of 5,049 at Arrowhead Pond.

Kiwanuka (27-5-2), a Uganda native now living in Las Vegas, endured a flurry of punches that left him profusely bleeding. Doctors declared Kiwanuka unfit to come out for the eighth round.

Huntington Beach’s Gonzalez (29-1) was fighting for only the second time since July 28, 2001, when he lost a 12-round unanimous decision to defending WBA, WBC and IBF champion Roy Jones Jr. Gonzalez knocked out Tyrone Armstead in the second round in February.

Joey Torres, 41, making his professional debut after spending nearly 23 years in prison for murder, hit the mat nine seconds into his light-heavyweight bout with Perry Williams but gathered himself and won with a second-round knockout.

Anaheim’s Javier Mora (13-0-1) knocked out Ronnie Smith (6-22) in the second round of a heavyweight bout and Simi Valley super-bantamweight Robert Ortiz (4-0-1) won a four-round unanimous decision over Stevie Walker (0-1) of Palmdale.
