Future Betting Resumes

Share

The second pool of Breeders’ Cup future bets will open today, so those inclined to do so can make win wagers for the three turf races.

Twenty-three horses and a field, which includes all others not named, are being offered for the Turf, which is at 1 1/2 miles, the Mile and the Filly and Mare Turf, which goes at 1 1/4 miles. The pool will close Sunday and the Breeders’ Cup will be held Oct. 26 at Arlington Park.

In the Turf, the most prominent names on the list of 23 include Sahkee, who was second to Tiznow in a thrilling Breeders’ Cup Classic last fall; Beat Hollow, a multiple Grade I winner who was an unlucky loser in the Eddie Read Handicap last month; United Nations Handicap winner With Anticipation and Golan.

Rock Of Gibralter, who has won six Group I races in a row in England, France and Ireland, heads the lineup in the Mile. Others of note include Forbidden Apple, who was second to Val Royal in last year’s BC Mile, Keltos, Landseer, Del Mar Show, Decarchy and Congaree, who has never raced on the grass.

Topping the list in the Filly and Mare Turf are defending champion Banks Hill, Astra, Affluent, Golden Apples, Voodoo Dancer and Tates Creek.

Race of the day: The third at Del Mar kicks off the pick six, which has a carryover of $119,460, thanks primarily to Proud Alvin’s shocker in Thursday’s fourth.

Who’s hot: Sure Shot Biscuit. The 6-year-old gelding recently became the first Iowa-bred to surpass $1 million in earnings.

Who’s not: Jockeys named Omar. Journeyman Berrio and the apprentice Figueroa have combined for one win at Del Mar.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using El Prado In Action and Classic Chrys in the fifth, using Duke Of Green, Komistar and Come Back Ronnie in the sixth, Whoopddoo, Continental Lu, Run Rate and Mind For Gold in the seventh and singling Golden Hours in the eighth.
