Share Oscars With N.Y.?No Way!
Re “Oscar Show Could Be Split With New York in Nod to 9/11 Healing,” Aug. 9: After reading comments by backers of the effort to bring the Oscars to New York, it’s abundantly clear that this is nothing more than a shameless attempt to use the tragedies of Sept. 11 as an excuse to rob Los Angeles of its rightful place as the home of the Oscars and to promote New York as the “entertainment capital of the world.”
If New Yorkers could have their way they’d move all of Hollywood to Manhattan. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences should recognize this blatant boosterism for what it truly is and not allow itself to be bullied. The Oscars belong in L.A.--the real entertainment capital of the world.

Share the Oscars with New York! Are you crazy? Did we get any sympathy from the other states after the Northridge earthquake? Most of the comments from the other states were something like, “They deserve it--a bunch of sinners--making their porno movies out there.” Did the people who suffered after the Oklahoma City bombing get a million apiece? The state of California is over 15% of this nation’s economy and we share that with 49 other states. Isn’t that enough?
