What a Record for Filly at Ruidoso Downs

AB What A Runner, a 2-year-old Arizona-bred filly, broke Ruidoso Downs’ track record for 440 yards Thursday and became the fastest qualifier for the $2,050,000 All American Futurity.

Owned by Dennie and Kris Hill and trained by Bret Vickery, AB What A Runner ran the distance in 20.993 seconds, eclipsing by .03 seconds the mark set by Truckle Feature in 1973.

Other qualifiers for the Sept. 2 Futurity include First To Flash, winner of the Rainbow Futurity on July 21; West Texas Futurity winner Eye Opening Episode, Flys R Streakin, Meteoric and The Down Side, owned in part by country music singer Toby Keith and former Hollywood Park CEO R.D. Hubbard.

Both Flys R Streakin and Meteoric are owned by Dutch Masters III--Dr. James Streelman, Doug Benson and Denny Boer. They were the country’s winningest ownership group in 2001 with 58 victories. Dutch Masters III also won a second consecutive Kindergarten Futurity at Los Alamitos with Sassy Smith.

Four! Use Gleason, Heza Buggin Wonder and BR First Sign in the first, Sir Elton and Amender in the second, Wranglers Lil Heart and Jazza Cactus Rose in the third, and Xula Lee, Dreams To Fill and Zip Lip in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: Premier Venu is a new shooter from Wyoming in the sixth making his debut for trainer Blane Schvaneveldt. Dash Of Melody adds Lasix in the seventh and switches to Joe Badilla Jr. for his second start.
