Two Will Try for Rare Wins

Share

A couple of camera-shy veterans will run today at Hollywood Park, which heads into the final 14 days of its fall meet.

Woking, who is 0 for 16 since the beginning of 2001, will try for his fifth lifetime victory in the fourth race while Sharp Boi, who is one for 34 in his career, is among nine scheduled to go in the seventh.

Owned by Ricardo Rivera and trained by Doug O’Neill, Woking is among the contenders in the 1 1/16-mile race for $10,000 claimers.

Besides his lengthy losing streak, the 7-year-old Smokester gelding is winless in seven races at Hollywood Park and has yet to win in four starts at today’s distance. He will have a new rider in Felipe Martinez after being handled by Chance Rollins in his previous three races.

Owned by Richard Haggerty and trained by Lewis Cenicola, Sharp Boi -- a 5-year-old Sharp Victor gelding -- hasn’t won since beating $32,000 maidens on a yielding turf course at Golden Gate on Feb. 22.

Race of the day: Stonecoldfox, who was impressive in her only previous sprint, and My Kai, who hasn’t race since an easy win going two furlongs at Santa Anita on April 18, lead a five-horse field in the first at Hollywood Park. The 6 1/2-furlong optional claimer only drew three other 2-year-old fillies.

Who’s hot: Julie Krone. The most successful female rider in history has won seven times at Hollywood Park and began the final three weeks of the season eighth in the jockey standings.

Who’s not: Gennadi Dorochenko. The former jockey turned trainer has won with three of 120 starters in 2002.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Anima Mundi, Rich Musique, Gold Scammer, Miss Boomtown and Partytime in the fifth, Rebel Rage, Bold Mind and Abarouge in the sixth, Dancing Banner and Severo in the seventh and singling Yearly Copy in the eighth.
