Furyk Takes Lead With a 64
Jim Furyk’s eight-under-par 64 gave him a one-shot lead over Nick Price and Padraig Harrington after the first round of the $3.8-million Target World Challenge at Sherwood Country Club on Thursday. Davis Love III shot a 66.
Furyk played the five par-five holes in only three under and had an eagle at the 531-yard No. 2, which has an island green.
Price was five under on the par fives and so was Harrington.
Tournament host Tiger Woods is four shots back after a 68.
“The course was in absolute perfect condition to score,” he said. “Look at the scores. Five par-fives and all of them are reachable. You knew you had to go low. At least I didn’t shoot myself out of the tournament.”
Only three players shot over par -- Rich Beem 74, Vijay Singh 75 and Bob Estes 76.
