Skier Missing, May Be Trapped in Avalanche
Searchers were looking for a skier presumed trapped in an avalanche near a Reno-area ski resort, authorities said.
A Mt. Rose ski resort spokesman said the avalanche was triggered after three skiers entered an out-of-bounds area just east of the resort. Two skiers made it back to the lodge to report that a 25-year-old male friend was missing, the spokesman said.
Washoe County sheriff’s searchers joined resort ski patrol members in a search for the man. But it was later called off because of extreme avalanche danger. Rescuers plan to resume the search today if weather permits.
