From Times Staff Reports

Witnesses in the trial of a teenager accused of assaulting a Ventura police officer described Tuesday how the girl’s unhappiness on that May night escalated into the confrontation with the officer, who shot her.

“It was one big confusion,” said Zaida Worthley, who was housing the girl and three other foster children in her home.

Worthley told her husband to summon a team of counselors and police because of the girl’s angry and defiant behavior.

Officer Kristen Rupp testified Monday that she shot the 14-year-old as the girl advanced toward her with a knife.
