Are They Playing or Play-Acting?
Another day of NFL action last Sunday, but you couldn’t tell from the pictures shown in the Times’ Monday sports pages [Dec. 23]. The Times printed an amazing five pictures of players in various states of preening and celebration, with only one picture of players actually playing.
I’ve read many Times writers bemoan the movement toward the modern “look-at-me” athlete. Yet the photography seems to be part of the problem, not the solution.
