Idaho’s Cable Gets an Offer
New UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell has asked Idaho Coach Tom Cable to come to Westwood as offensive coordinator and line coach.
Cable, who is 8-26 in three seasons with the Vandals, told the Idaho Statesman that Dorrell made the offer Dec. 18, the day he was hired to replace Bob Toledo.
“If it’s going to happen, it’s just a matter of me saying I’m in,” Cable said. “As of right now, I’m still at Idaho.”
Idaho has won only three games the last two seasons and Cable was under fire from boosters in November. He makes $197,000 a year and probably would take a pay cut to become Bruin offensive coordinator.
Cable was offensive line coach at Colorado in 1998 when Dorrell was the offensive coordinator there.
Dorrell interviewed seven current UCLA assistants Friday and said their knowledge and loyalty impressed him. He said that he has received letters from Bruin players and parents asking that he retain current assistants.
