Rock Mills and Ed Montague each hit two home runs and Pepperdine collected 20 hits in a 30-21 victory over Tulane, ranked No. 3 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball, in a nonconference game Saturday at Malibu.

With Santa Ana winds nearing 30 mph, the Waves (3-3) had five home runs and came within three runs of the school single-game record. Pepperdine defeated Whittier, 33-2, in 1955.

Mills, a senior catcher, and freshman outfielder Jason Durbin each had three hits and drove in five runs for the Waves, who defeated Tulane (0-2) for the second consecutive day.

The teams combined for 17 walks, 12 for Pepperdine, and 10 wild pitches, as the pitchers struggled in the high winds.

Stanford’s Carlos Quentin was hit by five pitches to set an NCAA Division I record in the Cardinal’s 15-11 victory over Florida State at Tallahassee, Fla.

The previous single-game record was four--done seven times--most recently by Casey Hildreth of Princeton in April, 2000 against Pennsylvania.
