Jets’ Testaverde, Hackett Feud
New York Jet coaches assembled Tuesday to prepare for the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, all under the cloud of an apparent rift between quarterback Vinny Testaverde and offensive coordinator Paul Hackett.
The Jets can’t score touchdowns, and Testaverde and Hackett are being blamed.
General Manager Terry Bradway said he believes the differences between Testaverde and Hackett are nothing more than competitive tension.
“My impression is that they’ve had a good relationship from the spring on,” Bradway said. “Everybody’s frustrated by what happened on Sunday. Obviously, we had a great opportunity and we didn’t take advantage of it.”
Hackett’s play-calling and game-management continue to be questioned. On Sunday, Testaverde threw a short pass over the middle with 13 seconds to play. The clock ran out and Buffalo won, 14-9.
