Anaheim police on Thursday released sketches of a man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Brinks armored truck guard, saying the assailant got away with $20,000 in $1 bills.

Brinks Inc. also offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the death of Ricardo Gomez, who was gunned down Dec. 17 as he picked up cash from a catering company.

Police urged people to be alert for anyone with a large number of $1 bills.

“If a person tries to get rid of their dollar bills at the banks, supermarkets or anywhere, please call us,” said Anaheim Police Sgt. Mike Hidalgo. “It’s kind of unusual for someone to pay with all dollar bills.”

Gomez, 29, was shot once in the head and died at the scene when he was confronted by a gunman in a hallway at Orange County Food Services. The gunman fled on foot after the 1:20 p.m. robbery.

Investigators said they don’t know how the man got inside the building. They have not ruled out that the robbery was an inside job.

Family members gathered at a news conference Thursday to ask for the public’s help.

“I just want to say that, please, if anybody saw something or knows something, please call the police,” said Gomez’s widow, Veronica, a 26-year-old Orange resident.

The gunman is described as white, in his late 30s, about 200 pounds and about 6 feet tall. He has a medium build and short, light-colored hair.

Anyone with information is urged to call Anaheim police at (714) 765-1516.
