Library to Offer Free Public Programs

The Oxnard Public Library will offer free programs for adults, including gardening workshops, author visits, book discussions and musical performances.

The first program will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28, featuring attorney Carmen Ramirez, director of the Legal Aid Clinic in Oxnard, who will discuss legal services available to county residents.

The library has scheduled two presentations to commemorate Black History Month.

At 6:30 p.m. Feb. 5, mystery writer Gary Phillips will discuss his work and sign books.

At 2 p.m. Feb. 16, Sandra Kamusikiri, professor of African American literature at Cal State San Bernardino, will present a one-woman show based on the life of Biddy Mason, a former slave who built a fortune in downtown Los Angeles real estate and nursing homes before her death in 1891.
