Ronnie Jace Should Win Eighth Race

If the real Ronnie Jace shows up tonight, the rest of the field is running for second money in the eighth, a $12,550 allowance at 350 yards.

Trained by Blane Schvaneveldt, who also owns the 3-year-old son of Fishers Dash in partnership with Ron and Ronnie Keller, Ronnie Jace was the champion 2-year-old gelding in California in 2001.

He won five of 11, including three stakes victories, and has trained well for his first start since Nov. 30. He will break from the outside in the field of six and will be ridden by Alex Bautista.

Leading trainer Paul Jones will try to beat Ronnie Jace with two runners--Tux N Rolls and Miami Cartel. The former has won three of 10 while the latter, who will be handled by leading quarter horse jockey Ramon Sanchez, has won three of 12.

One of two fillies in the race, Famous Cartel has won two of seven for trainer R C Howell but has been worse than third only once.

Most recently, the daughter of Corona Cartel was second to Santispac in the Stockton Derby on June 22.

Shots in the dark: L.B. Down shortens up and drops in class in the first for trainer Craig Robertson. Flying Ts Cassie Ann makes her Los Alamitos debut in the second having won two of four for trainer Dan Thomas.
