Picking on Tiger for Not Taking Up the Cause

Share

J.A. Adande’s July 18 column was way off base in terms of his request that Tiger Woods get involved in the cause for women’s rights. Tiger’s business is playing golf, not crusading for causes.

How come J.A. isn’t hounding Arnie or Jack, who are actually members of the club, rather than Tiger? Let Tiger play golf and win tournaments.

These exclusionary rules were not formulated by people of African and/or Asian descent. They are the creation of well-to-do men of European descent. So, wouldn’t it be more fitting for the protests to come from others of the same ilk? How about Nicklaus, Palmer, Watson, Montgomerie, Mickelson, Duval, Couples? They are the Caucasian counterparts of the myopic members who make and enforce those stupid restrictions. Let’s hear from them!

J.A. Adande thinks Tiger Woods should take a social stand and say something, anything to pressure certain “private” golf clubs to allow women. Let me say that again--private golf clubs. Is nothing sacred anymore?

Do the Boy Scouts allow girls? Do the Girl Scouts allow boys? Does the National Council of Women’s Organizations include men on its board? If they don’t they should, but who has the power to tell them to do that?
