Wynhurst Seeks a Clear Path

Share

Anyone who saw the fourth race on May 17 at Los Alamitos knows who the winner should have been.

Wynhurst, the 7-10 favorite, had an absolutely brutal trip in the $5,000 claimer and it was remarkable he was able to finish as close as he did.

A 6-year-old gelded son of Mt. Livermore, Wynhurst had to settle for third, beaten only a head in a three-way blanket finish with longshot winner Mister Really and Factorability.

If Wynhurst had been able to avoid even some of the trouble he encountered, he would be entering tonight’s fourth race on a five-race win streak.

Tonight he steps up to the $8,000 level and tries a shorter trip, 870 yards against a field mostly of quarter horses. The field that includes Kammies Shadow, Cielo Canosa, Gabriels Thunder, Rally Man, Nashua’s Asset and Sir Elton.

The picks: 1. La Yahualiea. 2. Gw Fancy Noble Chick. 3. Stel Corona. 4. Wynhurst. 5. BDR Bug On The Dash. 6. Five Wishes. 7. Toasting My Dad. 8. Miami Cartel. 9. Applicator.

Four! In the first, use La Yahualiea, and IB Snow, GW Fancy Noble Chick and Brisco County Bell in the second, single Stel Corona in the third and use Wynhurst, Nashua’s Asset, Gabriels Thunder, Kammies Shadow and Sir Elton in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: Let It Snow Cash steps into allowance company in the seventh for trainer Donna McArthur after beating $16,000 maidens May 12.
