A former chaplain and reserve deputy with the Alameda County sheriff’s office pleaded no contest to one count of repeatedly molesting a child and agreed as part of a plea bargain to spend 16 years in prison.

Daniel Coryell, 51, of San Leandro told his victims that God and their families would be angry if they told anyone what he did to them, according to Alameda County Superior court files.

Coryell was charged with molesting three teenage boys from 1983 through 2000.

Coryell is a former member of Christian Cathedral Church in Oakland.
