A Few Things to Treasure in Cambria

Share

Although we have traveled extensively, one of our favorite places remains Cambria and, in particular, Moonstone Beach (“Cambria’s Seaside Stage,” Weekend Escape, May 26). For many years we have visited there at least once a year, and we always stay at the Fireside Inn. We walk on the cliffs, savor the sea air and watch the sunset.

We have dinner at the Sea Chest and were surprised you were disappointed. We think it is one of the best seafood restaurants we have known. Maybe the chefs were having a bad day. Give it another try.

Incidentally, the first time we were in the Sea Chest years ago was for dinner as we drove north on Highway 1 to Carmel. Sitting at the counter with his wife was Otis Chandler, digging into some fresh oysters. I was impressed. If the Sea Chest was good enough for the then-publisher of The Times, it was surely good enough for me. Your article inspired us to plan another visit. We will stay at the Fireside Inn and dine at the Sea Chest.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Fireside Inn in December. Unbeknownst to the (extremely pleasant) hotel clerk, we were celebrating a special wedding anniversary. Without requesting it and at no additional cost, we were given one of the three ocean-facing rooms. This made for a truly special visit.

I enjoyed your article about this small town and appreciated the negative review of the Sea Chest.

However, I have a small criticism about a misplaced adjective: I don’t think a glass can be crisp; I believe the Chardonnay was crisp.
