It’s Time for Timely Action

Share

Trainer Richard Mandella had two impressive winners on Sunday, scoring with debuting 2-year-old Gentlemen’s Club and Palmarola, an Argentine-bred who had run twice before in New York.

Mandella, who had seven winners at the Hollywood Park meet through Wednesday, will try to add to his total today when he sends out Timely Action in the sixth.

A $48,000 allowance at seven furlongs, the race attracted five other entrants and Timely Action is one of only two coming off a victory. Owned and bred by Herman Sarkowsky, the 3-year-old Gilded Time colt broke his maiden by five lengths on May 18 in his first race of the year. Alex Solis will ride.

Doc’s Allowance is the other participant coming off a victory. A gelded son of Petionville owned by Everest Stables and trained by Nick Canani, Doc’s Allowance earned his first victory over this track on May 10.

Royal Moro, a gray gelding by With Approval, could be the one to beat. Making his first start in nearly four months, Royal Moro stumbled at the start of the Lazaro Barrera on May 27 and lost his best chance. He wound up fourth, beaten by more than four lengths by upset winner Captain Squire.

The field is completed by Primerica, Music’s Storm and longshot Eggbert.

Race of the day: Speedy Pick, who almost won the San Luis Rey Handicap at 58-1 the last time he ran 1 1/2 miles on the turf, will take on Continental Stitch, Fade To Blue and six others in today’s seventh at Hollywood Park.

Who’s hot: Laffit Pincay Jr. and David Flores. They began the week at Hollywood Park winning at a 22% clip, higher than any other jockeys.

Who’s not: Isaias Enriquez. The jockey is winless in 54 races at Hollywood Park.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Pacific Colony, High Tech Exec and Honour The Game in the fifth, single Timely Action in the sixth, use Continental Stitch and Fade To Blue in the seventh and Martinis Atmidnite and Pit Drip in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 0/95. Money: Previous day/meet total: $0/$543. Total money bet: $620.
