It’s a True Champions Night

Three Grade I races highlight a tremendous 11-race program on the third California Champions Night at Los Alamitos.

A Ransom, the winner of the Champion of Champions in 2000, will make his first start of the year in the $159,250 Spencer L. Childers California Breeders’ Championship Handicap at 400 yards.

Owned by John and Kathie Bobenreith and trained by Connie Hall, the 6-year-old gelding will be making his first start since winning a stakes at Sunland Park on Dec. 19. He is the defending champion in the Childers.

The other Grade I races on the program are the $349,000 Governor’s Cup Futurity at 350 yards for 2-year-olds and the $136,000 Governor’s Cup Derby at 400 yards for 3-year-olds.

Flys R Streakin and Doremefasolasi Win head the field in the Futurity. Dont Dink With Me and Last Shall Be First will square off in the Derby.

Four! Single A Ransom in the eighth, use Flys R Streakin and Doremefasolasi Win in the ninth, single Last Shall Be First in the 10th and all in the 11th.

Shots in the dark: The Joy Of Jazz drops in class in the second and gets a jockey change to Joe Badilla Jr. Mountain Snow tries tougher in the sixth as she tries to win her third in a row.
