From Times Staff Reports

A Van Nuys man who said he invited dozens of couples to his home to share spouses on weekends was convicted Friday of operating a sexual encounters business without a permit.

A jury found John Lynch, 50, guilty of five counts of zoning violations. He could face up to $5,000 in fines and 30 months in jail.

Police investigated after neighbors complained to city officials.

Under city ordinances, officials said, owners of sexual encounter businesses are required to obtain a permit from the city Planning Department, and such businesses must be at least 500 feet from residential areas.
