Late Surge Lifts Morning Snow
It’s no surprise that one of trainer Donna McArthur’s three entries in Saturday’s $361,000 Kindergarten Futurity took home the $151,620 purse. But It was a surprise that Morning Snow, a 9-2 choice, was the horse that sent her to the winner’s circle. The two-year old filly made up a good deal of ground late in the race to finish in 15.47 seconds in the 300-yard race.
Another of McArthur’s pupils, 6-5 favorite Lonely Moon Sign, finished second in 15.52 seconds. The two-year old colt had the fastest qualifying time of 15.44 and broke well, but couldn’t overcome Morning Snow’s late surge.
McArthur’s third entry of Style N Grace finished sixth in 15.68.
With Saturday’s win, Morning Snow is eligible for the Los Alamitos Bonanza, which offers a $1-million bonus if a horse wins the Kindergarten Futurity, the Ed Burke Futurity and the Los Alamitos Million.
