Cerin Can Make Move

Share

After the first 21 days of Hollywood Park’s spring-summer meet, Vladimir Cerin is tied for second with Bobby Frankel in the trainer standings.

They both have seven victories, one fewer than leader Jerry Dutton.

By the end of this afternoon, Cerin could have the lead.

While Frankel and Dutton have no starters, Cerin is scheduled to run Rich Musique in the fifth and Country By Nature in the sixth.

Owned by David and Holly Wilson, who have had major success with such claims as Early Pioneer and Designed For Luck with Cerin, Rich Musique will be a longshot in the 51/2-furlong turf sprint, but her speed makes her dangerous.

After chasing recent Railbird Stakes winner September Secret on April 17, Rich Musique, a 3-year-old Rizzi filly, will appreciate softer competition as she makes her first start on turf.

In the sixth, a $32,000 maiden claimer at six furlongs, Country By Nature is the likely favorite as he drops from the $50,000 level.

Like Rich Musique, Country By Nature will be ridden by David Flores. He will break from the rail.

Later in the day, many eyes will be focused on Bay Meadows when Exzacta Max tries for the third time to break her maiden.

Owned in part by local syndicated handicapper Jack Karlik, the 3-year-old Native Prospector filly will be ridden by Jason Lumpkins as she runs in the seventh after finishing fourth and sixth in two starts at Santa Anita and Hollywood Park.

Race of the day: Turkish Prize, second to Adminniestrator in the Quicken Tree Stakes last month, and San Juan Capistrano also-ran Speedy Pick head the field in the seventh at Hollywood Park, a 11/4-mile race on the turf.

Who’s hot: Patrick Valenzuela. A second consecutive appearance in this spot after he rode four more winners Wednesday at Hollywood Park.

Who’s not: Jose Espinoza. Victor’s brother got off to a 1-for-31 start at Belmont Park.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Boozin’ Susan, Pina Colada and Anima Mundi in the fifth, singling Country By Nature in the sixth, and Complete Class, Somethingdangerous and Turkish Prize in the seventh.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/51. Money: Previous day/meet total: $18.40/$290.60. Total money bet: $362.
