Shippers Could Share Hollywood Park Spotlight

Share

A pair of shippers are expected to make their presence felt in today’s holiday card at Hollywood Park.

Julie Jalouse is the 5-2 favorite in the $70,000-added Waya Handicap at 1 1/2 miles on the turf. The ungraded race is the fifth on an eight-race card that has an early first post time of 11 a.m.

After winning two of seven starts in Ireland, Julie Jalouse came to the United States early in the year and won her first time out. The chestnut filly, owned by Skymarc Farm, Inc. and trained by Christophe Clement, got up to beat Sweetest Thing by a neck in the Orchid Handicap, a Grade II, on March 24 at Gulfstream Park. Since then, she has won once in three starts.

All four of her career wins are at the Waya distance.

Two races later, River Rush, another import, is the 2-1 morning-line choice against five older horses going a mile on the turf. The 4-year-old gelded son of Strodes Creek comes west for owner Gold Spur Stable and trainer Lisa Lewis with six wins in 17 career starts.

Races of the day: Well Fancied is among 10 scheduled to go six furlongs in the $100,000 Fall Highweight Handicap at Aqueduct. At Churchill Downs, Take Charge Lady seeks her sixth graded win of the year in the $250,000 Falls City Handicap at 1 1/8 miles.

Who’s hot: Eddie Martin Jr. The jockey, who won 120 races at last season’s Fair Grounds meet, is hoping to pick up today where he left off as the Louisiana track opens an 85-day meet.

Who’s not: Jose Rivera Jr. The apprentice jockey won three of his first 58 at Golden Gate Fields.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Two Four Dancer and Candita in the fourth, Julie Jalouse and Garden in the Rain in the fifth and Bel Air Belle, Starship Saratoga and Farah Love in the sixth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 2/37. Money: Previous day/meet total: $7.80/$204.20. Total money bet: $268.
