Toil and trouble for the Warlocks

In the seven weeks they were on the road, the Warlocks blew out their transmission in Texas, sideswiped a Lexus in New York and hit a deer in Montana, which finally totaled their van. So the Echo Park eight-piece was relieved to pull into town Sunday , even if it was to play the first of seven consecutive nights. According to bass player Bobby Martine, “We’ve been so busy touring for so much of the last year that we’ve been neglecting our hometown.” Spanning everything from space jams to make-out music to “really angry god rock,” the Warlocks will perform their swirling psychedelia at the Three of Clubs tonight and the Smell on Saturday, supporting their new record, “Phoenix” (Birdman).

Punks, tune in

Twenty-two years since they sprouted roots in Cerritos, the boys from Channel 3 are finding out that tight, fast, old-school punk is never out of vogue. Supporting its new release “CH3,” the band plays Friday night at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana. “We’re amazed that people don’t boo us off the stage for being old men,” says guitarist Mike Magrann, buoyed by the response the band got last week in New York at CBGB’s. “First time we played there was in 1981 -- and they haven’t cleaned the bathrooms since.”

Briefly

Singer-songwriter Jason Falkner, working on a batch of songs for an album next year, performs with a full band Wednesday at the Troubadour .... Members of Sunday’s Best have decided “to disband in order to pursue other projects,” the band announced in an e-mail Monday.
