TURNING POINTS

There really was no one play to point to, only a series in the fifth inning when the Angels sent 13 batters to the plate and strung together 10 hits for eight runs to take a 9-2 lead. Every Angel got a hit in the inning except Troy Glaus, and Shawn Wooten got two hits, including a home run to lead off the inning.

Angel fans: You have to wait all the way until Tuesday to see this team play again. Yankee fans: Your starting pitching was atrocious. Clemens, Pettitte, Mussina and Wells finished with a combined ERA of 10.38. Everyone was concerned whether closer Mariano Rivera was 100% for this series, and it turned out they didn’t need him.

The Yankees continued to point fingers at one another during the game, the most notable example being David Wells getting upset with Alfonso Soriano for an error. Things like that never happened when Paul O’Neill and Tino Martinez were on the team, because they would have gotten all over a teammate who did that.
