1 Dead, 29 Injured in Crashes Along I-80
A series of crashes on a foggy, rural stretch of Interstate 80 killed a 27-year-old woman and injured 29 others, four seriously, authorities said.
The accidents, which occurred within minutes of each other about 5 a.m. near Allamuchy Township, involved seven cars, three tractor-trailers, a box truck and a bus. The roadway’s lanes going east were closed for more than six hours.
The first crash occurred when a bus driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a box truck, which hit two tractor-trailers, state police Sgt. Gerald Lewis said.
Three of those injured were in fair condition at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Ten others were treated for injuries.
