A Sylmar man was sentenced Monday to two consecutive life terms in prison without parole for the fatal shootings of his 19-year-old daughter and 8-year-old grandson last year at his home.

Claude Wright, 61, was found guilty earlier this month of shooting his grandson, Kyle, four times in the chest on July 12, 2001. He also shot his daughter Elizabeth -- Kyle’s aunt -- who was home from college on summer break. He then shot himself in the head in an apparent suicide attempt, authorities said.

At trial, Deputy Dist. Atty. Carolyn McNary played a tape that Wright left for his wife, which said, “I took them out and I’m going to take myself out.” A San Fernando jury took less than an hour to convict Wright on all counts. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Warren G. Greene imposed the sentence.
