Sophomore Derek Anderson threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns, including two to James Newson, in Oregon State’s 35-3 victory over Temple on Thursday night at Philadelphia.

Oregon State (2-0), a disappointing 5-6 last season, has won its first two games by a total of 71 points. Temple (1-1) had only 222 total yards after having defeated Division I-AA Richmond, 34-7, in its opener.

Linebacker Antonio Reynolds became the third Miami recruit to be lost because of academic issues. In addition, two other freshmen have yet to earn acceptance and another accepted a plea bargain for an armed robbery charge, meaning the Hurricanes could lose six of the 22 players from their recruiting class.... Georgia is seeking almost $1 million in a lawsuit against Tulane for the cancellation of three games. The suit said Tulane used deceitful tactics to get out of the contract, which called for the teams to meet in Athens, Ga., this season and next, and in New Orleans in 2008.

Jermaine Octavious Stansberry, 28, was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated robbery and felony possession of a firearm in the shooting death of Minnesota defensive tackle Brandon Hall last weekend. Raymond Hardimon Jr., 23, was charged with aggravated robbery for an alleged attack on another Minnesota player, Damian Haye.... The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that South Carolina is being investigated by the NCAA for possible infractions. Former Gamecock running back Derek Watson, who was dismissed from the team in January, reportedly was driving a $60,000 Cadillac Escalade that belonged to a Gamecock booster months after signing to play for South Carolina in 1999.
