McEwen of ‘Early Show’ to Leave

CBS’ “Early Show” weatherman and entertainment editor Mark McEwen is leaving the program. He is the third member of the “Early Show” team to leave, following Bryant Gumbel, who left CBS in May, and Jane Clayson, who will be leaving at the end of the month to become a CBS News correspondent.

Executives want to bring back Harry Smith, who co-anchored the program until 1996, with NBC Sports personality Hannah Storm as a possible addition, to what is expected to be a less traditional, more conversation-formatted program.

CBS News said McEwen would not be leaving immediately and may do other projects with the company.
