Pennants Headlight Trying to Shine Brightly

Share

Pennants Headlight, an 8-year-old gelding who has made a nice living at 870 yards, will be looking for his 14th lifetime victory in tonight’s fifth race.

A California-bred owned by Jackie and Rod Macpherson and trained by John Cooper, he has won his last pair at his distance and he will break from the rail in the $7,150 starter allowance for 3-year-olds and up.

Pennants Headlight will face a field that includes two other quarter horses (Dash King and Seeks Joy), an appaloosa (Sell Short) and two thoroughbreds (Able Hero and B. Fabulous).

Owned by Shirley Loeb and Sam Zanini and trained by Chuck Treece, Able Hero, a 6-year-old Australian-bred, may be the one to fear most. He beat $5,000 claimers by 5 1/2 lengths in his latest on March 21 and won with a lot left.

The picks: 1. Ensueno Chick. 2. Beyond Brilliant. 3. Wannaknowme. 4. First Clone. 5. Able Hero. 6. Relagating Miss. 7. Wuzz Up Cnc. 8. Shusifly. 9. Brushed Nickel.

Four! Use Juvie Dasher, Ensueno Chick and Plainsburg in the first, Planet Holland, Mr Corona Cash and Beyond Brilliant in the second, single Wannaknowme in the third and First Clone, Retained and Streakin Corona in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: Ramon Sanchez takes the call on Devoted Word in the sixth. Jazhi Dotcom comes back in a claimer in the seventh.
