What: “Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel.”

Where: HBO, tonight, 10.

In our litigious society, an increasing number of disputes in high school and youth sports result in lawsuits. The topic is examined on the latest edition of HBO’s “Real Sports.”

Among the lawsuits focused on is one filed by the father of a UCLA basketball player. No, Jason Kapono’s father has not sued Steve Lavin, as had been rumored during the season. Lynn Rubin of Union City, Calif., the father of UCLA reserve Janou Rubin, has filed a suit, but not against Lavin or UCLA. Rubin is seeking $1.5 million in damages because Janou’s younger brother, Jawaan, was cut from his high school basketball team.

Also examined is a suit filed by Marc Martinez against Corona del Mar High in Newport Beach and the school’s baseball coach, John Emme. Martinez claims Emme cost his son, J.D., a chance at a college scholarship or a professional contract.
