You can’t fool Mother Nature

Earth Day, the annual celebration of the planet and environment, started

in 1970 as an outgrowth of the social activism of the 1960s. Earth Day officially fell on a Tuesday (April 22) this year, but many environment-related events are planned this weekend. Thomas pulls

into Fillmore

The nationwide-touring “Thomas the Tank Engine,” a full-scale steam locomotive designed in the likeness of the classic storybook character, will be the main attraction at the Fillmore & Western Railway Co. for the next two weekends. The Day Out With Thomas family event will offer rides aboard railcars pulled by Thomas, plus themed entertainment, storytelling, videos, live music and crafts

Things Celtic in Camarillo

The fourth annual Camarillo Celtic Festival will return with a sizable program of continuous tradition-minded entertainment, plus food and arts and crafts exhibitors. The lineup of Celtic groups includes the Whooligans, Barbary Grant, Foggy Dew, Yavonne Dearth and Mystic City. There also will be Irish and Scottish dancers and bagpipe troupes. Blankets and folding chairs are advised.

Jewish culture and tradition

The 17th annual Santa Barbara Jewish Festival will fill the spacious grounds of Oak Park with cultural tradition and entertainment. Two performance stages will offer continuous klezmer music, cantorial works, Hebrew and Israeli folk songs and dancing. There also will be ethnic foods, a silent auction, used-book sale, children’s activities, Judaica and an exhibit of artwork by 30 Israeli artists.
