Judge Orders Recycler, County to Resolve Issues
A judge has ordered a Ventura wood recycler and county officials to work together to resolve odor complaints from neighboring Oxnard residents.
Ventura County Superior Court Judge Frederick Bysshe directed both sides to come up with an abatement plan for the stench attributed to the California Wood Recycling facility. Bysshe reached his decision Monday after several days of testimony.
California Wood had gone to court to halt the county’s recent crackdown on its operations. It contends that other sources -- including a mushroom farm and waste treatment facilities -- contribute to the problem.
Bysshe said he would start hearings again if the parties fail to come up with a workable plan.
