Swoopes Leads Comets Past Fever, 68-55
Sheryl Swoopes scored 16 points, Michelle Snow added 14 and Tina Thompson had 13 as the Houston Comets beat the Indiana Fever, 68-55, Thursday night before 7,020 at Indianapolis.
Snow scored seven points and Thompson had three as the Comets (17-9) used a 10-3 run over a three-minute stretch late in the second half to take a 62-52 lead.

Women’s basketball -- A Sports article on Friday incorrectly reported the location and teams involved in a WNBA game Thursday night. The Sacramento Monarchs played the San Antonio Silver Stars in Texas, not in Sacramento against San Jose, which does not have a WNBA team.
“We knew Indiana would come out and make some runs at us,” said Swoopes, who played all 40 minutes. “It was just up to us to answer their runs, and I think we were able to do that, and take the crowd out of it.”
Tamika Catchings had 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Fever (13-13).
Sacramento 86, San Jose 61 -- DeMya Walker and Ruthie Bolton each scored 13 points and the Monarchs kept their playoff hopes alive before 9,573 at Sacramento.
The win was Sacramento’s fifth in its last six games, as the Monarchs improved to 15-13 and pulled within half a game of Minnesota for the final Western Conference playoff spot.
Charlotte 65, New York 54 -- Rushia Brown scored 14 points, and Andrea Stinson added 13 for the Sting before 6,681 at Charlotte, N.C.
Brown, who had only two points in the last two games, helped Charlotte (15-12) retain sole possession of second place in the Eastern Conference.
