1 Killed, 3 Seriously Hurt in Crash

A 19-year-old man was killed and three of his friends seriously injured when their vehicle crashed in Newbury Park on Saturday night, Ventura County sheriff’s authorities said.

Drake Cain of Novato, in Marin County, died shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. He had been in Ventura County visiting friends, authorities said.

Fatal crash -- An article in Monday’s California section about a traffic accident in Newbury Park reported that 19-year-old Drake Cain of Novato, Calif., was not wearing a seat belt. Cain, who died in the accident, was wearing a seat belt.

Driver Julie Morrow, 19, of Thousand Oaks lost control of the car about 10 p.m. on Potrero Road near Wendy Drive. The vehicle left the road, rolled several times and came to rest in a field, officials said.

Cain, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected through a window. Michael Youmans, 20, of Davis was in critical but stable condition Sunday night and Jennifer Swanson, 20, of Thousand Oaks was in fair condition.

Hospital officials declined to releaseMorrow’s condition.

Authorities said they believe she was speeding.
