Patrick Ramsey is finished for the season, placed on injured reserve by the Washington Redskins as the quarterback prepares to undergo foot surgery.

Ramsey said Monday he will have surgery on his trouble-some right foot within the next two weeks, prematurely ending his first year as an NFL starter.

“We just really felt like it wasn’t going to get better by the end of the season,” Ramsey said after meeting with a team doctor.

Ramsey has been bothered by the flare-up of an old fracture on the right edge of his foot. The injury’s origins are unknown, but it first became a problem during training camp and was aggravated in the last few weeks.

Ramsey tried to practice last week, but he re-injured the foot and had to leave early. That’s when he knew he was probably done.

“I understood that might be a reality when I slipped last week and it hurt that badly,” Ramsey said. “In a game-type situation, more than that’s going to happen.”

With Ramsey out, midseason pickup Tim Hasselbeck will start the remaining three games.

Steve McNair had an MRI exam on his sprained left ankle that made it difficult for him to walk. Tennessee Titan Coach Jeff Fisher said his quarterback won’t practice this week.

Results of the MRI were not available Monday afternoon, but a walking boot was put on the ankle to stabilize it.

The Detroit Lions put safety Corey Harris and long snapper Bradford Banta on injured reserve.... Miami quarterback Jay Fiedler aggravated a knee injury that sidelined him for four games earlier this season and his status is uncertain for the Dolphin game next Monday night against Philadelphia.
