Gehry has designs on arena
Frank Gehry, who has sheathed art in Bilbao, Spain, and music in downtown Los Angeles, may be swathing sports in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The architect has designed a master plan for the Brooklyn Arena, possibly the future home of the New Jersey Nets basketball team if developer Bruce Ratner is successful in acquiring it.
Gehry’s plan for the development at Flatbush and Atlantic avenues in downtown Brooklyn, to include not only the arena but also a complex of businesses and residences, is scheduled to be unveiled today at Brooklyn Borough Hall. The Nets were put up for sale recently, with Ratner reportedly bidding $275 million. And, if Gehry builds, perhaps they will come.
